The IRB 8700-800/3.50 is ABB’s flagship standard production 6-axis articulated robot built for extreme heavy-load applications. It offers a rated payload of 800 kg, with a peak payload up to 1000 kg when the wrist points vertically downward, and a maximum reach of 3500 mm.
Breaking the stereotype of sluggish ultra-heavy-duty robots, it adopts optimized counterweight and parallel link architecture, delivering 25% higher operating speed than peer heavy-duty robots for outstanding cycle time performance. It supports a high allowable inertia of 725 kg·m², perfectly compatible with heavy tooling and large offset fixtures. It maintains vibration-free motion and superior dynamic stability during high-speed operation, making it ideal for heavy mold transfer, heavy-duty extrusion tooling, short-stroke large-scale LFAM 3D printing extruder mounting, and thick sheet handling.
Each joint adopts a single-motor single-gearbox configuration. Equipped with purely mechanical counterbalance instead of failure-prone gas springs, it reduces potential failure points. It features extended maintenance intervals: the oil change cycle for J4/J6 gearboxes reaches 20,000 hours; the onboard robot battery lasts 4 years under three-shift operation, and the recommended gearbox inspection cycle extends to 8 years, effectively lowering the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) throughout the equipment lifecycle.
The robot comes factory-fitted with Foundry Plus 2 protection and IP67 dustproof & waterproof rating. The wrist flange features electroless nickel-phosphorus anti-corrosion coating, eliminating extra protection upgrade costs for harsh environments with heavy dust and coolant splashes. It has a compact base footprint of 1175×920 mm. Controlled by the high-performance OmniCore E10 controller, it supports vision tracking and multi-robot coordination.
